Contemporary and Floorwork

Contemporary and Floorwork

Drawing on his practice from the capoeira training in his adolescence and experience as an avid breaker in his young adulthood, Mark has established a distinct style that fuses the acrobatics and dynamism of floorwork and power moves with contemporary dance.

Expect to be in contact with the floor and for your core to be the connection between the upper and lower body in twisted and reversed positions. By seeing the world upside down, your perception will undoubtedly shift.

Mark Philip is a dancer, choreographer and co-director of Uppercut Dance Theatre, alongside Stephanie Thomasen. He has been a dancer in the company since 2003, and in 2016 he started as artistic director. Mark Philip’s background in capoeira and break dance laid the foundation of what has since come to be known as Uppercut Dance Theater’s unique, contemporary expression.
